Director of Coaching Des Moines

Director of Coaching

Full Time • Des Moines
If you’re looking for a job that’s more than a job; a chance to be a part of building a community of like-minded individuals with a passion for impacting children in our community through the game of soccer; that prioritizes relationships, culture, and fun – this could be the job for you. Soccer Shots is a youth soccer organization for children 2 – 8 years old that works in childcare centers, preschools, elementary schools, and public spaces, and we’re looking for a coaching coordinator to manage, lead, hire, train, empower, and support our coaches in the Central Iowa area.

As a Director of Coaching, you will be the primary contact for Soccer Shots coaches – you can’t shy away from talking on the phone, in fact, you should enjoy it! Communication skills are a must, and while you don’t need to be Shakespeare, you should be able to write thoughtful emails with correct grammar and punctuation. This role will require you to make hard, quick, and clear decisions.  And while we do have fairly standard operating hours, this job isn’t a punch in/punch out job – we serve coaches and families all day, every day, even on the weekends, so the ability to be flexible and answer emails/calls as they come is NECESSARY.

You will be expected to become a master in coaching the "Soccer Shots way", and you will need to clearly communicate, train, and empower coaches to do the exact same.  Part of this role will require you to coach a maximum of 15 of your own sessions at childcare centers, preschools, elementary schools, and/or public parks.  These sessions will also be used to help train new and veteran coaches.

As one of our main staff members you will also facilitate coaching get togethers.  Culture is a big deal for us.  We work hard and play hard, and you will need to get creative with ways to ensure there is a healthy work culture with all of our coaches.

Finally, you need to understand and enjoy working with children. Coaching will be a part of this role, so understanding the “why” behind what we do can’t be accomplished unless you have mastered coaching. Developing a strong understanding of what we do on the field is vital for all parts of being a coaching coordinator.

Bottom line:

Do you like to be organized? Find efficient ways to do things? Handle multiple details coming at you from all directions? Does it excite you to come up with processes for smoother workflow? Are you outgoing but also enjoy grinding through some work on the computer and checking things off a list? Do you enjoy working with children? Do you want to be part of something bigger than yourself that is making a positive impact in your community?

This could be the job for you.
